Possible DNS Issue

Hi,
Just setup a network with one server, win 2k3 standard and 3 desktops, WinXp.
I am able to ping the server, 192.168.0.1 from the server and any pc on the lan.
I cant ping any desktop on the lan from any machine inc server.
I have a network printer which i can ping no problem as well as a print server from
any pc and server.
For some reason i cant ping the desktops and everything seems to be ok i can see?
Any ideas what it could be?

Is the built in Windows firewall on each client PC enabled and set to not reply to
pings?
