Check out this website at http:///aroundcny.com/technofile/texts/bit032801.html.
This website features an article by Al Fasoldt who recommends one of the following
firewalls:
a) BlackIce by Network Ice which can be found at www.networkice.com/. BlackIce costs
only about $40.
b) An Ethernet Cable/DSL Router that works as a dual-purpose firewall. It is designed
for small office and home office users. It works as a firewall to protect your network
while at the same it helps your network access different parts of the Internet. The
dual purpose Ethernet Cable/DSL Router (firewall too) cost about $100 to $200 and
can be hooked in a few minutes.
c) Two or three models of EtherFast Cable/DSL Router line from Linksys can be found
at http://www.linksys.com//. The EtherFast Cable/DSL Router/Firewall can connect
eight computers to the Internet through a single Internet hookup. All of the Internet
traffic will pass through the EthernetFast Router built-in firewall. The author paid
$150 for it from a local store. Isn't this what you are looking for to balance your
budget? If that is too expensive, why not visit: http://www.networkliquidators.com/refurbished-firewals.asp?
You might find a deal there. Best of luck.
