Well, there are a whole lot of different variables that can effect this and you haven't
provided much information.
Is the 2003 box a domain controller? Is the XP client logged in with a domain account,
or a local account?
There are three things that have to work together here:
1) The user account you login to the XP client with has to have a username and password
that is identical to an account on the server 2003 box, or there has to be a domain
controller and a windows domain account used.
2) You have to make sure the NTFS permissions of the share allow that specific user
the access they need.
3) You have to make sure the share permissions of the share allow that specific user
the access they need.

My impression is that there is a tool "easy lan folder share" which can solve the
problems easily.
you may search it at google.
