There is little profit motive to write drivers for equipment that is not sold in 
fairly large quantities.

I know this is a bit off topic, but if you really want backward compatability with 
old hardware and also the absolute latest drivers in new hardware, would you consider 
(gasp!) Linux?

The Ubuntu distribution is very good at discovering hardware and is well documented 
with online information.
