Can't delete windows.old folder

I just recently manually installed Windows 7 and the installation appears to have
gone smoothly, but the only problem is I can't seem to get rid of my windows.old
folder which still has all my old programs and files (about 140+ gigs). Microsoft
help says you can easily do it through disk cleanup, but when I try that, it doesn't
even give me the option of deleting the windows.old folder. When I try to manually
delete the folder I get all sorts of administration errors saying I can't do that,
or that only SYSTEM is allowed to make changes. I'm hardly a computer wiz, so simple
explanations are appreciated :)
