Windows Vista and Windows 7 installations of Upgrade licenses require that you start
the installation from a running instance of the Operating System that you will be
upgrading from.

During the upgrade installation, you have the option to choose a custom uograde installation
which does a clean installation allowing you to add, change or repartition as desired.
Of course data is lost during this type of upgrade os be sure to back up before
choosing Custom installation.

This is unlike Windows XP, which allows you to use an Upgrade CD to install an Upgrade
license to a bare hard disk drive.
