Robert, You don't specify what version of Windows 7 you've installed or if you are using 64 or 32 bit. There are several work-arounds for both. The WMP54G Network Interface Card (NIC) you are using is OLD technology and while you didn't expect to, I would recommend upgrading your NIC. In the meantime, let us know your system configuration and we'll be better able to help you. Also include your PC Model.
