If you have a full retail license for Word 2002, you are authorized to install one
instance on your desktop and one more instance on your "portable" (aka laptop).
In reality, the MS activation system provides a good deal of latitude, so if you
choose the option in the Activation Wizard to activate by telephone, you'll get a
little more slack from the phone system.
If you are again rejected by the automated "challenge and response" phone system,
choose the option to speak with a live activation agent. If you call during normal
business hours you'll have the best chance of speaking with someone who is in the
same country/region you are.
As Martin posted, activation agents are instructed that "the tie goes to the runner"
so I think if you have to appeal all the way to a live agent, you'll get that second
installation.
