I sure seem to run into roadblocks everywhere with Win7 Home. Maybe thats because I never ran Vista. I am using a Linksys wireless router with a Linksys PCI adapter card (WMP54G). I could not find an updated driver but the latest one I have (whcih works in XP) seems to install ok. The adapter does not show in Device Manager tho. What do I need to do here? I will search again and verify the driver will work in 7. Thanks.

I had to purchase a new PCI network card that was Vista Compatible. Vista Compatible stuff will usually work with 7

There goes my budget. ;) I looked at Newegg and only found one Linksys adapter that is Vista ready. Since I had just yesterday ordered a new keyboard, I thought I would connect my printer and see if it worked. Nope. HP's site says drivers should be ready by the time Win 7 launches. Dont see any drivers and I am not going to wait. Everything else seems to be working fine so maybe this is it. I hope so.

I think I am going to switch brands and buy a new router and adapter card for Win7. I did not find reviews for the Linksys card (that was Vista compatible) to be favorable. How about Netgear? Another brand? And which type should I get? I have the G type right now. Thanks. I hope other companies are not sol slow to support Win7.

I would not buy a Router. A Router doesn't care what Operating System is on the Computer. It will work on Linux, Macs, Windows 98 thru 7.

I could not get DLink, or Linksys Network Cards to work in 7, but the Netgear I purchased a couple weeks ago works fine.

I knew I did not need a new router but am slightly miffed that Linksys is slow in providing drivers let alone useful information. Ended up ordering a Gigabyte adapter card, it has good reviews and is cheap. My mobo is Gigabyte anyway. Oh and one reviewer said Windows 7 does not need drivers installed for this card.

The Netgear Card I installed also worked with just the Windows Drivers, but I did end up installing the Netgear ones a few days later. Windows did recognize the Netgear Drivers as better, and allowed the update.

If you really want a new Router then get a N Router, and a N adabpter. Might as well upgrade to faster spec.

Robert, You don't specify what version of Windows 7 you've installed or if you are using 64 or 32 bit. There are several work-arounds for both. The WMP54G Network Interface Card (NIC) you are using is OLD technology and while you didn't expect to, I would recommend upgrading your NIC. In the meantime, let us know your system configuration and we'll be better able to help you. Also include your PC Model.

Hi Mike, Already ordered a GIGABYTE GN-WP01GS card, should have it tomorrow. But I am always up to getting better technology. Its a Win 7 Home 32bit on a home brewed machine. Gigabyte mobo with AMD3 cpu Been running good since I powered it up last month.

I have found both Cisco (Lynksys) and Belkin to be not so good at wireless N dual band adapters. Netgear seems to be on a roll for me with both a new router and USB adapter. Not that I have a good grasp of what MS messed up yet for the Win 7 computer in networks. My work around for the appearing/disappearing fileserver is clunky. The belkin & Lynksys are ok for the XP machines.
