They listed some pretty good solutions, but there are a few
more spots where a program can start at bootup that I know
of; Here is my little memory list so I do not forget one of them.
0. sector 0 of the boot drive This one does not count except
for things like BOOTMAGIC which is a excellent program and
nasty things like viruses.
1. c:\config.sys
2. c:\autoexec.bat
3. c:\windows\winstart.bat This program file may or may not
exist on your machine, but it will start things on bootup.
4. windows registry
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\windows\current
version\run...
5. c:\windows\system.ini
6. c:\windows\win.ini
7. windows startup menu c:\windows\startmenu\programs\StartUp\*.lnk
8. Task Scheduler (on system tray) c:\windows\system\mstinit.exe
(I think this is right) If you have a scheduler program installed
check it's listings
9. c:\progra~1\icq\ndedit.exe c:\progra~1\icq\agent\ndedit.exe
If you ever install ICQ it likes to install it's netdetect program
in the regestry. ICQ does not give you a way to totaly kill the
program. So I took it's listing out of the registry.
