Robert, there is normally a network icon on the desktop, but the one on the control
panel has the same function. Usually a boot to safe mode will give you a list of
problems, but not always. Lets get rid of some files that are useless, and which
may cause problems. Use the start menu, find files or folders feature and find and
delete all files found by typing in *.chk and click ing find now, and then *.tmp
and then type in: desktop.ini and delete all that it finds. Then type in: ShellIconcache
and delete it and then restart the computer. The pc will build a new clean ShellIconCache
on boot up and also any desktop.ini files it "needs" if any.
