Dear Steve, I did run the setup through the dos prompt and it installed Windows 95
again. It went into the same error codes. This is what it said:
Please wait, updating configuration files. Windows could not combine VxDs into a
monolithic file before starting. Windows may not start or run properly. If windows
fails to start, run setup again. Press any key to continue. Then it says, device
file in the system ini file is damaged. It may be needed to run windows you may
need to run setup again. The files it lists are c:\windows\system\wmm32\vwin32.vxd,
vcond.vxd, vxdldr.vxd, vpicd.vxd and ntkern.vxd. If you press any key to continue,
computer shuts down. Do you have any suggestions please, or do I need to reformat
and reload everything? This is my friends computer and she said before she got the
initial error regarding missing a file when windows was loading, she had installed
a program that went into error during installation and she just shut the computer
down in the middle of it :(. I suspect that is what corrupted the computer, she
does know the name of the program, but I dont' know how to uninstall in MS Dos seeing
as Windows is inaccessible (safe mode won't work) and I don't even know if I could
uninstall due to the installation being ruined. Thanks in advance for any help.
