> Steve - I am having a similar problem, except: 1. ALL Windows startup modes (safe or not) produce the same result - bare desktop, invalid page fault in Explorer, "tasks" box if I double-click. 2. I believe I caused the problem by deleting a file. I was trying to free up hard disk space and deleted 3 or 4 .exe files .. I was sure they all had to do with Real Player (which I do not have nor want), but the problem started right after that. SO the cause is clearer, but how to fix it is not. I do not know how to get this file back. I have a Windows 95 CD and am able to select a program to run form the CD from the "tasks" window .. but running setup.exe does nothing visible. I have run McAfee VirusScan from an emergency boot disk and there are no viruses. Thanks, Ted
