Sounds like a problem with an IDE controller, as Safe mode uses MS-DOS compatability
mode for disk reads and writes. In safe mode open device manager and click the plus
for hard drive controllers. Click on each and click remove. Restart in normal mode.
If it asks to restart keep telling in no as it may need to find and install more
than one device. When it is done, and setting in the desk top with no hard drive
activity, Restart the computer BEFORE you do anything else.
