If the A:\ prompt is appearing then likely the machine was booted from a dos boot
disk. Depending on the configuration of the boot disk windows may or may not load
when you change to the drive (e.g., C:) where it is installed and the directory (e.g.,
\WINDOWS) and type the WIN command.
The boot disk MUST have an MSDOS.SYS file that points to the exact location of the
windows directory. If the msdos.sys file just has one line like ;SYS then it will
not work.
Dodgy stuff - and that's all assuming Windows is actually present on the hard disk!
