Flashing the BIOS rewrites the data in the CMOS/Eprom that "is" the "default" BIOS.
Had another thought though. It's possible that the system files didn't get written
to the hard drive after the last format. So, boot to a start up disk again, and at
the a:\ prompt type:
sys c: and hit enter. Remove the disk and restart the machine. This rewrites the
DOS level system files to the hard drive.
