Msn Messenger will not connect!

Hi i am a newly apponited system administrator, and need to enable MSN messenger
to run off a few workstations. However, i have not luck in getting them to connect...
MSN say that Messenger automatically detects my LAN settings, hmmmm i dont think
so, otherwise it would connect right? I am running (Microsoft Proxy 2.0 Server) on
the Internet server, i have also opened the outgoing port 1863, still no luck.....
i am pleading for help...... how you can.. many thanks
