Need help on an old 486 PB System

I formatted the drive, 400mb, now I get a pci read configuratuion error while booting up with boot disk, and it can't find my cd rom. has PhoenixBios Ver 1.1 if this means anything, but cd worked before I formatted. I hate these old systems, but Im burnt out on what else to try for it to recognize my cd rom. I thought about a flash update or something like that, but I can't find a download for a Packard Bell PB440A system.
