explorer won't start

On starting up, explorer doesn't start - I'm left with a blank screen and the error message "Desktop Can't access this folder. Path is too long." I can run most apps from the task manager, but I'm at a loss at how to fix this. Anybody got any troubleshooting tips? Thank you.
