Clean Windows 95 Install

I have the entire set of Windows 95 installation floppy disks and hope to do a clean
install on an AST notebook without a CD drive. I am having trouble removing the operating
system even with the new boot disk. Is this impossible? The responses I've seen here
probably work for others because most folks have a CD drive. Is this old AST worth
the trouble? Can I just buy Windows 98 Upgrade floppy disks and upgrade? Need help.
