Many thanks for your message. Not sure about Active Desktop - I seem to have gathered it from somewhere! Tasks>file>run application>C:\Windows\explorer.exe gives an error message - Explorer caused an invalid page fault in module EXPLORER.EXE at 0137:00402039. However, I was able to get into systedit.exe by another means and it shows shell=Explorer.exe. Any more suggestions would be very welcome. Dereck
