First, go to "Control Panel", select "System" from the menu, click on the "System Restore" tab, and check the "shut off" option. Make sure you are using a firewall. Windows XP has its own. Then run Spybot Search and Destroy. If you do not already have this utility, you can find it on CNet downloads. Then go to http://www.pandasoftware.com and download "active scan", a free antivuirus scanning utility for when you suspect you are already infected. It will not protect you in the future, but will fix your problem now. Even if you have an anti-virus program, it may not be up to date, and running this will not interfere with what you have, but just act as another check. It is also downloadable via CNet. Use the "entire computer" and "auto-disinfect" options when setting up the scan. This sequence cleared up "cool search", which appeared on my browser last week and kept coming back up even when I reset my home page, every time I rebooted. I hope this helps. Good luck, Rick.
