IE 5.5 no page load

I’m recuperating from a browser hijack and I’m trying to clean up a few stray problems. After running through some connection problems, I can now connect normally. The only problem is that no page will load – not even google! I don't mean "no page can be displayed" here, I mean it attempts but never even loads the page title then hangs forever trying to load. Here’s the lowdown: I’m on a 56k dial-up and the only network components I’ve got running are client for Microsoft networks, TCP/IP, and the Microsoft dial-up adapter. I’ve disabled WINS res. and DNS and after talking to my ISP, they reluctantly passed along a winsock fix thinking that might be the problem. None of it worked! I’d be real thankful if anyone could provide any clues why I can’t get any pages to load. Thanks ahead…
