Of course, you have to get into the case, but you can unplug it first. I was referring
to static electricity, which can ruin hardware.
There's probably a lot of dust built-up inside, so that's a good time to blow the
dust out. What I do, since I don't have an air compressor, I use my vac's brush attachment
to get the worst out, then my blow dryer on a cool setting. It works. Dust can contribute
to overheating.
On an HP, you don't get into it from the back. On each side of the case, in front,
there's probably a lever. You lift those up, grab the front section of the case and
press in the CD ROM with your thumbs, and pull it off. I think I explained that right,
but it's a clue anyway.
