Unable to initialize the virus scanning engine database files

I recently just fixed the problem with the setup of the monitor of my computer (with
Win95) (see Gray screen and inaccessible desktop (Win95)). However, as I was in the
process of fixing this problem, a problem with the anti virus program seems to develop,
though it may be coincidental. Whenever I (re)start the computer, following the screen
with the MS logo, a screen with the title "NAV Auto-Protect" appeared, and it has
the message "Unable to initialize the virus scanning engine database files". As a
result, the anti virus program is disabled, and there is no response when I try to
enable it. I tried to uninstall the program, it won't do it. I tried to reinstall,
it won't do it either. Help would be much appreciated.
