Hi Ed:
I think I just found the problem. Are you using a
computer running Windows "XP" to format the
floppies? I just read on the vendor's home page
that MAXFORMAT will not make 1.7MB floppies on
NT/2K/XP -- only 1.6MB floppies. I never noticed
that limitation before -- I always used Win95 to
make my floppies.
There's another floppy formatter called MAXIDISK,
available at
http://www.herne.com
but that seems to have the same limitations when
used on NT/2K/XP. Do you have any friends using
95/98/SE/ME that will help you make your floppies?
By the way, the "Read Only" attribute on the CD
files won't bother anything.
If you can't find a friend with 95/98/ME, you
could always use that old DOS file-splitter
program CHOP31 that I talked about in the original
"make your own floppies" discussion. There are
several newer ones available that MAKE will split
files using a nifty Windows interface -- but you will
still need to ASSEMBLE the two split pieces using
DOS.
Keep me posted on which way you want to go.
