Ad-Aware 6 Hangs and Spybot 1.4 Gives dll Error

I am trying to clean an old computer of spyware and keep it running until I get a 
replacement.  I am running Win 95A and IE 5.5 128 bit.  Ad-Aware 6 now hangs during 
the scan of certain folders. I have tried re-installing Ad-aware and un-installing 
Spybot 1.2 during the Ad-aware scans.  Spybot 1.2 scan Ok, but of course it is outdated. 
 As for Spybot 1.4; I get an error saying Spybot .exe link to missing user32.dll. 
The AGV AV was disabled during the scans.  I have installed the Winsock and DUN 1.4 
update.  But I understand that messing with the user32.dll can be risky and may not 
allow the system to boot. Any advice appreciated.
