Hi Woolly:
"Nah." I'm not quite out of ideas, yet.
Using WINDOWS EXPLORER, go into
C:\WINDOWS\MEDIA
and make a COPY of
"The Microsoft Sound.wav"
and put the copy on the DESKTOP. (Don't DRAG it
there, that will MOVE it out of the MEDIA folder
into the DESKTOP folder -- make a COPY.)
It should appear on your DESKTOP as a little white
page with a speaker in front of it. Double click
on it. The SOUND RECORDER program should open
(probably in the upper-left corner, and you can
SEE the wave-form of the sound as it plays). Do
you HEAR it? If you don't HEAR it, do you at
least SEE it?
This is a long-shot:
START -> SETTINGS -> CONTROL PANEL ->
PC Card (PCMCIA)
Click the GLOBAL SETTINGS tab.
Make sure the
"Disable PC card sound effects"
is NOT checked.
