Hi, Jerry, Your patience is astounding! I have checked the two things you suggested - the cd rom driver was fine and also the second PCMCIA slot is empty. The only ! in yellow is for a standard serial mouse. What puzzles me, I don't know if I made this crystal clear at the start, is that CDRoms have sound, but not audio cds. Why should one play through the pc speaker and not the other? As I said at the start, if I attach speakers to the cdrom drive jack I can hear sound from audio cds. Somewhere in the back of my mind I wonder if it might be to do with the fact that I once had a flipdisk portable hard drive with a 'jukebox' on it that I used to play my cds. If i right click on the cd drive icon in my computer when an audio disk is loaded to launch it that way, it tells me that it can't find the programme to play the disk and I need to specify the file to play it. But when I try to do that it tells me that cd audio is associated with the mmjb (Music Match Jukebox) programme, which I don't have any more. Could this be the problem? I can open the windows cd player and see the audio cd playing, but as I said there is no sound. I am sure this is all irrelevant, but I've typed it in anyway so you can discount it. Regards as ever, Woolly
