Hi Jerry, Read this thread with interest, having the same problem although the machine was upgraded to 98SE, I followed all of your suggestions and ended up with the message 'Scandisk cannot examine drive C'. Am I correct in thinking this means the hard drive is damaged? and if so is there any way of retrieving the data on the machine or am I now going to wish I had finished transferring everything to my new machine! Would appreciate any help at all. Lynn
