Hmmm. That means that, in addition to the other
missing files we've found and replaced, the file
MEM.EXE, which normally lives in the
C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND
folder is missing.
There comes a time in the life of every computer
when it just has to go into the shop for hands-on
repairs. I'm afraid that time has come for yours.
If you have all the original installation disks,
you could probably re-install Windows from the
ground up, and start over fresh. But if you have
DATA (pictures, e-mails) on the hard drive (which
seems to work OK), you'll probably want to save
that data. A reputable shop should be able to
save this data for you by taking your hard drive
out and installing it (temporarily) in another
working computer. I have even managed to save
data using only DOS and a portable ZIP drive, but
that's going to be a hard thing to do by remote
control instruction.
I'm sorry we couldn't get your computer working
again.
