Disable Windows automatic updates

How can I stop Windows 95 automatically searching for updates? The updates may be desirable but the constant, sudden, appearance of the update screen confuses my wife's aged aunt; she only uses a dial up connection and if updates were to be applied they would probably take hours to complete because the system is so out of date. Although I have explained how to go to her home page (Google) it would be the lesser of two evils to disable or uninstall automatic updates, because I am constantly asked how to get the screen 'back to normal'! Thanks
