oops, i went to reformat computer and i reformated, getting rid of windows, have disc but can't get it back up

i got a computer off one of my friends, except she didnt want any of the files on
there to be seen, so i restarted and went to the ms-dos thing, i wrote
"format :c" and now windows is not there, but i went to re-install, i have the windows
95 setup cd-rom and the floppy disk, i used the cd-rom and it said invalid system
disk, please insert correct disk and press and key, or something along those lines,
then i tried the floppy, same thing, and i need to know how i can do this, anyone
know how?
