Upgrading to 98se from W95, my way

I have done it. I don't reccommend it, however. The bit of code in W98 (OEM) that
looks for a prior install simply checks for the existence of "Win.Com". You can
boot to a command prompt (DOS 7), and rename that file, then an OEM CD will happily
perform an upgrade.
If you will look upward in this thread; I have already said that you can get by without
a floppy drive, if that is how the laptop is set up (either / or Floppy vs. CD-ROM
drive). My way almost always includes creating a folder for the primary Win98 (or
whatever Windows version) CD folder on the target system's hard drive (source named
Win98 on all versions of the Win98 CD's I've seen), copying the contents across,
and running the install from the hard drive.
I will perform the W9X equivalent of a WinNT "Repair Install" on a Win98se setup
in between my clean reinstalls, every two years or so, but over time, I have seen
too many problems coming up after performing an in place Upgrade (and you do realize,
so don't shoot me for saying it, since these threads are read by folks who don't,
that you can use the Upgrade CD on a clean install, simply by having your prerequisite
CD on hand to let the install look at).
