thanks so much, of course i had a look into the sites you mentioned to me, actually i got some ideas. i am ghosting diferent model of machines, so i want a bootable CD that detects the NIC the problem is that PCIDET try to write back to the bootable device, however while i am using a CD i cannot write on it, using Ramdrive i can create a virtual partition, but the problem is how to copy the files to c: before to run the line DEVICE=\net\protman.dos /I:\net in config.sys, then i can use the virtual partition to indicate pcidet to update the protocol.ini there instead of try to update it in the CD. thanks....
