Inability to read some mail due to the following

On some attachments I get a pop up "This file does not have a program associated
with it for performing this action. Create an association in My Computer by clicking
View and then clicking Options"
I get as far as options and am confused as to what to do next. Has anyone out there
been able to fix this problem? I am running W 95. Thanks in advance.
