Hi Mark:
You can edit the file
C:\MSDOS.SYS
with a text editor, but it's a HIDDEN SYSTEM file,
so you're going to have to change those attributes
first before you can even SEE the file. (Do you
need directions for doing that?)
Here's what you want to edit:
Find the section with the title
[Options]
If you change
BootMenu=0
to
BootMenu=1
you will automatically get the BOOT MENU you
usually get by pressing F8. From here, you can
select COMMAND PROMPT ONLY, which will leave you
in DOS without starting Windows.
If you change
BootGUI=1
to
BootGUI=0
you will start automatically start in DOS mode.
(You can always type "WIN" at the DOS prompt to
start Windows from there, if you want Windows to
start.)
If you change
AutoScan=1
to
AutoScan=0
you will turn off that annoying habit Win95 has of
running SCANDISK when you reboot if you crash out
of Windows.
