I had a similar problem with Win98 recently. AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS were copied
with another extension. Then they were altered. I removed the altered lines. Also
look at the invisible file MSDOS.SYS. You can edit this way:
ATTRIB -S -H -R MSDOS.SYS
The file will run normally even if it's not a hidden system file.
