Missing part of the startup screen

At one time before I updated the BIOS I was able to see the 1st startup screen concerning which HD's, floppy, CD's etc were loading and how much memory was installed, now it bypasses that. If I'm lucky I see a fraction of a second of the screen as it changes. Is there a way to get that screen back? Reload BIOS update and try again? It does show the next screen for the controller card but since I've no HD connected to it that info is not important to me.
