To clarify what you want to do, you want to clear the MRU (Most Recently Used) list
aka the History, for Microsoft Office. (Unless I mistake your meaning.)
Try TweakUI:
Annoyances forgot to give installation instructions. After unzipping put TWEAKUI.CPL
and TWEAKUI.HLP in the C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM folder.
Then when you run the Control Panel you should see it.
Also, it's an undocumented feature that you can click on a CPL file and it will execute
right there rather than needing the Control Panel.
In its Paranoia tab it has options to clear a number of MRU lists.
If that doesn't work a more comprehensive program is:
