When I was using Win95 I put my SYSTEM.DAT and USER.DAT in a backup folder. So if I had any problems with Windows not starting I used to go into DOS and use Dosshell to put my backup files back. If Win95 didn't startup then you would normally get an error message and that would rename and put SYSTEM.DA0 and USER.DA0 back in the Windows folder. SYSTEM.DA0 and USER.DA0 are Win95's backup.
