Hi Paul:
Do you get a vertical line when you type "\"?
As if the key were being shifted?
You might open a blank NOTEPAD page and walk
through the whole keyboard, unshifted then
shifted, and see if there are any other funky
keys. This won't fix anything, but might give us
a clue about the problem.
Also, this won't fix your problem, but you can
improvise a "\" by holding down the left ALT key
while typing "9" then "2" on the number pad.
If your laptop doesn't have a dedicated number
pad, then the FN+F11 "NUMLOCK" needs to be
engaged, and you have to use the "2" that the "K"
turns into. This tip won't work with just the
regular number keys at the top of the keyboard.
