Just as a test, you might try some of the other 
browsers that don't rely on any IE components:

The most basic is Off-By-One.  It doesn't even 
have to be "installed."  Just run the EXE file.
It even runs from a floppy:

And there's OPERA:
http://www.opera.com/download/
