Hi Torstn:
Here are some more ideas concerning installation
of the AMD patch. First, I found where MS has
moved their "official" instructions. They are now
here:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q192841/
However, some readers have reported in earlier
posts on this subject, that they are not able to
get into SAFE MODE as suggested in the MS article,
and that the patch will not run in DOS mode.
Some have suggested un-zipping the patch
executable and manually installing the files in
their proper directories using an "INI" file as a
guide. I couldn't find any "INI" files in the
patch, but there are four "INF" files, the
contents of which didn't make a lot of sense to me
-- but you're certainly willing to do your own
experimenting.
I've always been intrigued with the idea of using
a product like MO'SLO to slow down the DOS
underpinnings that Windows 95 runs on. I've
tested v1.5 of MO'SLO, and it seemed to slow down
my Windows operations as advertised. I used this
command line to start it:
C:\MOSLO\MOSLO /20 C:\WINDOWS\WIN.COM
Maybe Windows running at 20% speed will load on
your AMD, and let you run the patch. If you try
this method, please post back here and tell us how
it worked. This topic comes up regularly.
You can download a 15-day free trial version of
MO'SLO v1.5 here:
