Question about 'Fit more on floppy disks with the DMF Format'

51 year old student needs help with assignment! Assignment requires: Definition of DMF? Was it developed to prevent users making illegal copies? How does the Microsoft version work? Does it create more segments per track, or bigger segments? What is the difference between the various flavours, i.e. 1.68MB, 1.70MB?
