I have a question about What
to Throw Away:
This is just an add-on to the list of what to throw away. The *.chk brings up those
*.0000, *.0001, etc. all at once. I believe there are 4 numbers in those.
I do an occassional Find > Files or Folders, etc. and go through the list below.
If you use ICQ (just an example), there will be many of those *.tmp found. They can
add up to quite a bit of space over time.
*.tmp
*.chk
*.Gid
*.old
*.bak
*.cnt
MSCREATE.DIR
6. Get rid of excessive screensavers. Follow step #5, type *.SCR, then bring up the
list. Open each one to see what it is. Delete the ones you no longer use or want.
(Note: If a screensaver is listed in "Add/Remove Programs" or is listed in the Start
menu with an "Uninstall" or "Remove" option, remove it that way instead of just deleting
the file)
7. Get rid of excessive video clips. Follow step #5, type *.MOV, then bring up the
list. Open each one and see what it is. Delete the ones you no longer use or want.
Do the same with *.AVI files. (Note: A new computer normally comes with several introductory
and advertisement-type movie clips where can consume a lot of hard drive space)
Some of this info. came from this site:
