I''m not clear about how to find and delete the programs that run on start-up. Also how do you know which programs you should not delete?

If they are not in the start programs start up menu, you need to go into the registry, HKEY local machine\software\microsoft\windows\current version\run and delete them there. the ones that must be there are systray, explore, loadwc, and any virus program you are running
