mwave drivers

I am unable to play midi (.mid) files on my computer using Win95 Media Player. Media
Player will play .wav files and CD Player works ok.
To try to remedy this I :
1 - removed and reinstalled Media Player
2 - tried to follow the following procedure from the Mwave readme file
that I found on the computer
Q: Why don't I hear any sound when playing a MIDI file with Windows 95's
Media Player?
A: You won't hear any sound when playing a MIDI file if your MIDI drivers
have not been configured for Mwave. To make sure that Mwave is prop-
erly configured:
1. Select Settings from the Start menu.
2. Select the Control Panel.
3. Select Multimedia. From the multimedia screen, select "MIDI".
Select "Single instrument" and highlight "Mwave MIDI Synthesizer".
I was unable to highlight "Mwave MIDI Synthesizer" since my two choices were
"MIDI for Mwave Midiport Device" and
"MIDI for Mwave Midisynth Device"
If I select "MIDI for Mwave Midiport Device" - Media Player appears to work
(the time slider moves) but no sound comes out.
If I select "MIDI for Mwave Midisynth Device" - Media Player pops up the
message:
media player
MMSYSTEMOO3
The driver was not enabled
I bought the computer used - any help you can give me on this problem
will be greatly appreciated.

You need to install MIDI waveset (called MIDI samples in IBMish). They are on the
installation disk or on the IBM Net. Otherwise you'll only hear faint rasping.
