Question about 'Customize the Tray'

I have a question about Customize the Tray:

I guess this is NOT a recommended way to get rid of (just) the icons in the Tray? 1. Ctrl+Alt+Del, select "Explorer", (not I.E. or O.E.) click "Close Activity" (in Eng.?). 2. The logout screen appears, press Esc or "No" to abort. 3. After the usual delay, the message "Program is not responding" (Eng.?) is shown. 4. Click "Close Activity" (Eng.?). A few moments later the screen is refreshed and all the icons in the Tray disappears. All the programs are still running though, including those with any open windows. This has been testd with no ill effects in Win95, I don't remember if I tested it on Win98. Supposedly, what is happening is that the registry is being reloaded. I don't know. Anyone?

Why not just set preferences for each program? Do you have TweakUI? You can unselect
the items you don't want running at startup.

Right-click on the icons in the tray area, open each, go through the options to turn
off the "tray" or "run at startup" feature.

Win 98 or newer>> Btw, 98 ver. msconfig. works in 95. If you can get a copy, all
you need to do is drag it into your Windows\system folder and reboot.

Go to Start>Run, type: msconfig. Leave systray, scan registry, Load Power Profile
(both), your virus scanner and firewall if you have one.

Go to Start>Run, type sysedit. Look over the autoexec.bat for unneccessary lines,
click the win.ini and check for programs loading here:
[windows]
load=
run=
Close and save changes

with ms config...a great little program by the way, you can instead of going to the "start menu-and typing run" ect...... just right click the desktop and create a shortcut to wherever it is placed in the file system.usually system32
