Question about 'How do I make the background of desktop icon text transparent?'

I've downloaded and extracted the application extension VB40032.DLL to a folder,
and when I try to open it I get the "Open With" box that says "click the program
I want to use to open the file VB40032.DLL" and I get a list to choose from along
with the option to choose "other". What do I do from here?- I have no idea. I need
this extension installed so "Disappear" will work. Right now I get an error message
upon startup saying "required file not found". Thanks for any help with this.

Place VB40032.dll into the C:\windows\system folder. Then click start, run and type
in:
regsvr32 VB40032.dll exactly as typed and click ok. this will "register" the dll
in the registry. Reboot and then disappear should work. ( I use disappear on this
machine )

Steve, thanks for the reply; I did as you said & when I clicked OK after typing in
"regsvr32 VB40032.dll" I got this error message (heading: RegSvr32)-" VB40032.dll
was loaded, but the DllRegisterServer entry point wasn't found. The DllRegisterServer
may not be exported, or a corrupt version of VB40032.dll may be in memory. Consider
using Pview to detect and remove it." Would you have any advice as what to do next?
Thanks!

I rebooted & Disappear seems to work,.i.e. the color box with text is invisible under
my two desktop icons. (although after the last icon I click there is a smaller dotted-line
box visible under it). My main concern now is that error message I got after adding
the VB40032.dll to the registry & what it means. Thanks

Steve, I'm done messing around with this icon thing so I went into registry editor
& found VB40032.dll & deleted it-goodbye. I also deleted Disappear. Not worth the
trouble to me. Thanks for your trouble, though!

Sometimes to make the regsvr work you have to first go into the registry and delete
the old info concerning the file you are trying to register. The entry contains the
date and size of the file. That's what gives the old file new file prompt when installing
software, devices etc.

Yeah, I used to use Disappear, too, but I found a better little program called Transparent
4.2. Go to
http://people.ne.mediaone.net/jguerette/transparent/
and check it out—its freeware and works much better than Disappear on my Win95b machine.
Be sure to read the documentation and you'll be back in business.
